Climate change is intensifying the environmental factors that drive migration, disproportionately affecting vulnerable and marginalized communities, primarily in the Global South. Although climate-induced migration is a global issue, these communities face the greatest risks and challenges. Current legal frameworks for protecting mobile people often fall short in addressing the specific needs of climate-induced migrants. This article proposes a new framework to justify a right to migrate for those displaced by climate change. Unlike existing international laws, this framework is grounded in the principles of environmental justice, aiming to offer fair and effective protection for climate migrants.

This article analyzes whether the European Union holds extraterritorial non-refoulement obligations in Niger, focusing on EU-funded migration control projects under the Joint Valetta Action Plan and the EUCAP Sahel Niger mission. It examines border control, asylum processing, and resettlement initiatives involving actors like Frontex, IOM and UNHCR. While the EU is bound by non-refoulement under international law, limited transparency and unclear operational control make it difficult to determine legal responsibility.

Op 3 juni 2025 viel het Kabinet Schoof I, het tweede kabinet op rij vanwege het dossier asiel. En beide keren niet omdat de betrokken partijen ontevreden waren over de hardvochtigheid die het Nederlandse asielbeleid vaak kenmerkt – nee, steeds stapten de grootste partijen uit de coalitie omdat zij vonden dat het allemaal nóg strenger moest. Kabinet Schoof I ging er zelfs prat op het strengste asielbeleid ooit te voeren, met het volgens minister van asiel en migratie Faber heilige doel om de asielinstroom ver naar beneden te krijgen. Want dat zou zijn wat het volk wil.
